The Boardroom

fullBackgroundFirst you have to love the name … doesn’t it sound official?! Great for that lunchtime “business” meeting. You can just tell your boss you’ll be in “The Board Room.” Before he figures out that you don’t have one you’ll be gone!

This great little brew pub and eatery is right in the heart of downtown Pismo Beach, but a couple blocks off Pomeroy so it tends to attract locals and avoid the summertime throngs. Rich dark woods make up the large bar, tables and bar-height table in the back. Tasteful surf-inspired decor and a dartboard complete the look with a flat screen to catch the game of course. True to the name this brew pub offers dozens of varieties of beer to choose from — pleasing everyone from my Oregon Duck husband who loves his Deschutes Black Butte Porter or Mirror Pond Pale Ale to those Guinness lovers offering a choice between the Draught and the Extra Stout — while not leaving out the thrill seekers looking to try a Czech Republic Zatec Bright Lager or a Nicaraguan Tona Lager.

The Board Room’s savvy owners also know that often the beer lover brings a companion that likes another option — offering a decent sampling of Central Coast wines.

If you have a hankering to nosh a bit while sipping they have a great little menu of nibbles with something for everyone. From the fresh and light Insalata Caprese with vine ripened roma tomatoes and fresh basil to the tasty flat breads that include fun selections like “The Boarder” that boasts such tangy toppings as fresh salsa, pulled chicken and a mix of parmesan and cheddar cheeses. My husband enjoyed the heartier grilled panini “The Italian” stuffed with ham, pepperoni, mozzarella, cheddar, pesto and topped with a dash of Italian dressing. All of their paninis are made on locally baked ciabatta bread — tasty and fresh. On the lighter side their bruschetta on “Boardroom Croutons” with kalamata olives, fresh basil and tomatoes all topped with mozzarella and a drizzle of balsamic glaze is the perfect fit.

The friendly owner and staff make it feel like “your bar” once you’ve visited a time or two — this pub is a great addition to the downtown offerings. A little bit more mellow and relaxed like a perfectly worn-in flip flop, this will soon become one of your favorites.
