Food Bank Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving morning has always meant seasoning the Bird while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – and possibly enjoying an early eggnog while looking forward to a day of non-stop gluttony …

I see nothing wrong with that!

Several years ago our family decided that we could cancel out some of our day-long feast calories if we started out with some exercise! Luckily our area has a great way to burn calories and support our local food bank – three of them in fact – so we made it an annual tradition to “Turkey Trot” and support those less fortunate in our community at the same time.

The original Turkey Trot is our favorite – meeting at the Pismo Pier and running North and then South to complete the full 5K. There are walkers, runners, kids, dogs, folks with Turkey Hats or other crazy dress – all happy to get up and greet the day with a little trot! And if sand isn’t your thing then there are two other options – in Avila on the Bob Jones Trail and San Luis Obispo at Laguna Lake Golf Course. All races are simultaneous with varying distances:

Pismo and Avila races check in at 8 a.m., and then begin at 8:30. Laguna Lake Golf Course check-in is at 9 a.m. Adults and children must sign a waiver – and can be pre-printed at the link below. No registration fee but suggested donations starting at $1. T-shirts for the event will be available for purchase at each site.

In Pismo check-in is just south of the Pier and will be a 1 mile, 5K or 10K fun run. In Avila check in is at the Promenade at the corner of Front Street and San Francisco and will be a 2 mile or 5 mile run or walk along the Bob Jones Trail. At Laguna Lakes Golf Course the route will be 2.5 mile walk or 5K run through the course.

No matter what your skill level all are welcome – it’s a great sense of community and a great way to give back while kicking off the holiday. Come out and Trot with the Pismo Beach Homes Team and Family!
