Spanish Springs in Pismo Beach moves forward but is delayed …

We arrived at the Pismo Beach Vet’s Hall to attend the Pismo Beach City Council meeting to witness the vote on Spanish Springs development and were greeted by hundreds of concerned citizens here to listen and make public comment on the project.

We had to leave at 9:30pm, but as we arrived home we immediately turned to our public access television channel to watch the remainder of the meeting. As public comment continued well into the late night and early morning hours it became clear that the room was well divided on the topic.

The Pismo Beach City Council did approve the environmental impact report and the general plan amendments for Price Canyon area.

But, they sent the rest of the documents back to staff with additional questions wanting to see a larger conversation on overall development in Price Canyon, directed two developers there to work together.

Thanks to Cynthia Lambert, who was able to stay and witness the events as they happen and who updated us all on her @SouthCountyBeat Twitter stream.

“Council passed the Spanish Springs environmental impact report on 4-1 vote. Other approvals needed to move the project forward.”

“Council unanimously passed general plan amendments for Price Canyon area. Is sending the rest of the documents back to staff with questions.”

“Council wants to see a larger conversation on overall development in Price Canyon, directed two developers there to work together.”

“This could delay council’s consideration of any development in the canyon for months.”
