A Little Yoga in the Village

Over the years I have become a huge fan of Pilates. I like Yoga, but I really love what Pilates challenges me to do and how it effects my body. That being said, it seems that there is a large range in the quality of the instruction offered all around the Central Coast. From gym offerings to serious Reformer classes. What is most accessible to everyone is a good solid Pilates mat class. That being said, one of the best examples of this can be found at least three times a week at Yoga Village in the Village of Arroyo Grande.

Owner Connie Murphy has created an amazing studio at the rear of Village Center at the mouth of the Village. It is light, bright, eco-friendly and truly a calming space. I have taken yoga from Connie and some of her wonderful instructors. She seems to attract truly gifted and positive folks and they are excellent in all that they do. I have to say that I am particularly fond, however, of Connie’s personal Pilates classes.

She is always searching for a new challenging “tool” to add to our practice. No two classes are the same — never dull or repetitive. What’s more is that over the past six months I have learned how to do something that I’ve never before mastered — the art of quieting the mind enough to stand in tree pose on a balance board for over a minute. I truly applaud her ability to instruct with patience, a sense of humor and always inspiration.

In addition I have taken their occasional “Relaxation Bliss” which is truly heaven in a session that includes restorative poses with healing massage, Reiki (energy healing), aromatherapy, Thai bodywork, hot stone therapy and guided meditation. The Vinyasa Flow class is also a great way to take your practice up a notch to the next level.

The studio is beautiful, the Om Shanti boutique offers unique and beautiful clothing that allow for freedom of movement and fun expression!

So stop in, take one class or take advantage of their wonderful passes that save on per class cost. I am sure you will soon find there are several favorites that bring you back to Yoga (or Pilates) in the Village!
