Cambria Scarecrow Festival

Where Whimsey Runs Rampant

If you are looking for something fun, free and fantastic to do this month I highly recommend taking a drive to Cambria for their annual Scarecrow Festival. The whole town — including San Simeon and Harmony — take part in the festivities for the entire month of October.  Stroll through the streets and there are new discoveries around each corner. Students, individuals and businesses all take part in demonstrating their creativity to create these stunning displays that can move you, bring back memories, or make you laugh!

The first festival debuted in 2009 with about 30 Scarecrows in attendance. Since then it has grown to include armies of hundreds of these characters sprinkled all over town. If you aren’t familiar, Cambria is a darling seaside village filled with unique shops, yummy restaurants, coffee shops, lovely inns, beautiful beaches, and plenty of sights to take in.

I like to make a weekend of it and really take the time to enjoy each inventive creation.  We normally stay at one of the inns, enjoy the restaurants featuring local wines, walk Moonstone Beach and really take in the uniqueness of this coastal paradise.  If you don’t have time to make a whole weekend out of it, don’t let that stop you.  A day trip will still be enough for Scarecrow sightseeing and lunch at one of the many delicious options.  For more information on the Cambria Scarecrow Festival, check out their website http://cambriascarecrows.com/
