The Central Coast has so much to offer to locals and visitors. The ocean, hiking, wine tasting, art galleries, restaurants, apple picking, bike riding…the list goes on. One thing that is now on my bucket list is the Field of Lights in Sensorio in Paso Robles. I had to see a story on the CBS Morning News to be reminded of another beauty I was missing in our own backyard.
Creator Bruce Munro is a British artist who is best known for immersing large-scale light based installations inspired by interest in shared human experience. Recording ideas and images in sketchbooks has been his practice for over 30 years. By this means, he has captured his responses to stimuli such as music, literature, science and the world around him for reference, reflection and subject matter.
Come for the wine. Stay for the 58,000-plus technicolor flowers and towers. Arrive before sunset, grab some food, enjoy some live music and find a seat to watch the sunset over the golden hills. Once the sun is down, wander among thousands of lights and detach yourself from this world. Spend a few hours exploring the field, listening to local musicians and chilling to the sound of crickets!
This weekend the display begins at 6:30pm and stays open until 10:00pm. I can’t think of a better way to spend the end of the summer season than to enjoy this display!
