The Rotarians of Pismo Beach have been picking up trash along Highway 101 in Pismo Beach for over 20 years.
The Rotary Club of Pismo Beach / Five Cities has been performing community-building projects for over 40 years. One of the most consistent projects has been the monthly highway cleanup project, with over 200 individual outings to ensure the trash from Highway 101 is always collected to help keep our community clean and safe.
Every month, a group of Rotarians gather outside of Oxford Suites to begin the monthly ritual of safely walking along the highway and frontage road to collect all the discarded trash from vehicles visiting our community. They split into groups of 2 with bags, pickers, and helmets provided by the California Department of Transportation.
Community leaders who have taken a leadership role in keeping the highway clean: Hap Harbert, Marcus Harmon, Anita Shower, Terry Fibich, and Paul Holden have all chaired the highway clean-up committee
If you are interested in assisting with any of the Pismo Beach Rotary projects, they love to make connections and welcome new volunteers.

Michael:
The Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Highway Clean-Up was one of my greatest joys! Marcus. Hap, Paul, you, and Barbara Harmon -- what a way to start the day. I remember one clean-up morning finding currency on Highway 101 up against the embankment below the Miller's 76 'station. I was so excited because I knew we could donate it! I could not wait to get hone to tell Manferd of our find...only to find out that Manfers had let the currency out of his window to be found by Rotary!
