If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, check out the Great American Melodrama! Located right on Highway 1 in Oceano, it’s just about the most fun you could have on a night out.
The Great American Melodrama opened its doors in 1975 and has been performing top-notch musicals and comedies ever since. Many of their shows are locally-themed; a few years ago they staged Pappa Pia, a Pismo parody of Mamma Mia!
The crown jewel of their yearly program is the Holiday Extravaganza, which is running November 14 through December 31 this year. It’s a Christmas Carol retelling full of whimsy and holiday magic, and followed up with a Holiday Vaudeville Revue. Tickets are highly coveted and already scarce, so if you want a seat head over to americanmelodrama.com now!
2026 is shaping up to be a great year at the Melodrama too! January starts off with The Super Trio, where three fast-food employees score an internship to become superheroes! Then they’re kicking off summer with The Wizard of Halzyon, following an ordinary girl that’s transported to the fantasy town of Halzyon and recruited to defeat an evil wizard. Fall is capped off with a production of Sleepy Hollow as you’ve never seen it before, and then the year is ended once again with the Holiday Extravaganza.
If you’re looking at the 2026 season and can’t decide which to go to, you can get an all-star pass for one admission to all seven shows for $210! If that’s maybe a few too many, they also have a four show pass for $124. I promise you won’t be disappointed with any show, I’ve been to several and they have all been fantastic.
There are still a few Holiday Extravaganza tickets available so head to the box office now, or wait until December 1st to start booking your tickets for the upcoming season. There are a few more incredible shows that I didn’t mention, so be sure to check them out!
