Lunar New Year 2026

Happy Lunar New Year! This year is the Year of the Horse, representing energy, optimism, and moving forward. We’re moving out of the Year of the Snake, which represents transformation and letting go of the past.

While Lunar New Year is officially recognized on February 17th, Downtown SLO is hosting a celebration on the 19th along with Farmer’s Market! Head over to Mission Plaza for a free and family-friendly celebration honoring tradition and sharing in the moment together.

There will be deliciously local food vendors, community booths, and special performances from the Cal Poly Lion Dance Team and violinist Rose Crelli! It’s bound to be an incredible show, so don’t miss it!

The celebration has outgrown Palm Street–the heart of SLO’s historic Chinatown–but the businesses there will be open and ready to welcome you! Stop into the Ah Louis Store (listed on the National Register of Historic Places!) for curated gifts and entertaining essentials. Then head across the street to Mee Heng Low Noodle House for a delicious dinner, and end your evening with a movie at the Palm Theater.

Lunar New Year is the perfect time to come together and celebrate the diversity of our beautiful county. If you’re already planning on going to the Farmer’s Market, it’s even easier to stop by Mission Plaza and join in the festivities.
