After years of searching for a perfect fit for their “forever” home on the Central Coast, our clients Carole and Jim decided to choose location over finish. We set out to help them find a Shell Beach home with ocean views walking distance to the water, that was affordable enough to make their own. They soon closed on a 1949 beach bungalow that had originally included just two bedrooms and one bath. Somewhere between the original owner and when it became Carol and Jim’s “project” a second story addition had been awkwardly added to add a super-sized master suite and 1.5 more bathrooms. Let’s just say they had their work cut out for them!
Luckily, this couple has great vision, and found a great team. Partnering with Jim Newhall of Pacific Rim Build+Design for the architectural design work they got to work creating new elevation that tied the little beach house puzzle together and also made for a fun and functional floor-plan that provided better entertaining and cooking spaces and showcased their views.

The next step was finding a great contractor to turn what was only on paper into reality – that person was Brett King of King Construction. A tiny, dark kitchen became a beautiful epicurean open-floor-plan workspace. Soaring ceilings opened up the aging 40s bungalow. New windows throughout made it light and bright. Gorgeous bathroom finishes, flooring and lighting put on the final touches. The exterior became a cohesive, modern home capped off with gorgeous metal shed roof. It was a serious example of team work!
