Head over to Pismo Beach on November 6th, 7th, and 8th for the first annual Sand Art Festival! The shores of Pismo Beach will be transformed into an open air art gallery, free to enjoy and perfect for a family outing.
Watch as artists create ocean-inspired sand art installations, with the beach itself as the canvas. The festival invites you to embrace the impermanence of the art as it’s washed away by the tide each evening. Each one-of-a-kind piece will be created during the day and then erased overnight to be made anew.
World-renowned sand artists from California and beyond will be creating these stunning pieces and working together to create collaborative works. There will also be hands-on “learn to sand draw” lessons for kids, so bring the whole family!
The Sand Art Festival is committed to environmental sustainability, so the only materials used in the artworks will be sand and water! Every artist and art-appreciator is encouraged to leave the beach better than they found it. The Pismo Beach Stewardship and Educational Outreach Program will be in the plaza Thursday and Friday from 3:00-4:30 with materials about the program, information about the artists, and tools for helping with beach cleanup.
The artworks will only be visible the day they’re created, so make sure to visit Pismo Beach and check them out before they’re washed away. The festival recommends visiting at low-tide golden hour for the best views, which is around 5 PM this time of year!
Several hotels in the area are also offering discounts for that weekend, making your vacation–or staycation for us locals–even easier.
