Stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, spinach-au-gratin, green beans with fried onions, home-made rolls AND the crown jewel – the TURKEY … ah that great holiday we hold dear is just around the corner. But before you tuck into that calorie-laden, once a year meal you can do something for the community and offset a few of those calories as well – the Turkey Trot! Avila Beach and Pismo Beach will each host an early-morning run/walk/jog benefitting the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo on Thanksgiving Day.

When: Thanksgiving morning November 24, 2016 8:30 am. Rain or Shine!
Where: Pismo Beach south side of the pier
Entry Fee: FREE ~ $1 or more Suggested Cash Donation
Why: To have fun and run/jog/walk off a few calories before the big feast
and to help purchase food for those less fortunate and in need.

Pismo Beach will have three runs to choose from – 1 mile, 5K and 10K. Avila will have two runs – 2 mile and 5 mile. Rain or shine, greet Turkey Day with a few hundred like-minded participants. Serious and not-so-serious. Dressed as Pilgrims or there to set a Personal Record – you will see every kind, all with the intention of doing something good while enjoying our Central Coast beauty and ringing in the start of our most glutinous holiday!
And for every $1 donation, $10 worth of food is available to help our neighbors struggling to meet their basic needs. And no registration fees! Just a suggested donation of a minimum $10 and t-shirts for sale for $15!
So waddle on down to the South side of the Pier in Pismo, or the Promenade at Front Street and San Francisco in Avila for 8:00 a.m. check-in and 8:30 a.m. start and give yourself an excuse to go for seconds later in the day!
