We LOVE Pismo Beach Athletic Club

Pool at Pismo Beach Athletic Clubpbac logoMy husband and I are no strangers to gym membership. We have belonged to many over our years — in our small town and in major metropolitan areas. That makes us a bit picky when  it comes to shelling our our hard-earned dollars — especially because we want to avoid the classic scenario of paying for a gym membership and never visiting.

After failed attempts to stick with another local option we decided to give Pismo Beach Athletic Club a try. They had something for everyone — my mom included. Tennis, Swimming, Classes, TRX, Spinning, Racquetball, Pickleball and a great childcare option.

My husband is the gym traditionalist working mostly the cardio and weigh equipment. I love the Body Pump classes and treadmills for rainy day runs. My mom loves the “indoor” pool that allows her to swim in all weather conditions. We also happen to have more than one friend that play racquetball and another that plays pickle ball and they seem to love those accommodations.

Over the past year the PBAC facility underwent some major updates and renovations, expanding their rooms that hold classes by double it seems — making room for better equipment access and space to move while also offering one of the latest fitness challenges: TRX “Suspension Training System”. This is a total body fitness program that uses gravity against the participants own body weight using bands hanging from the ceiling to develop strength, core, balance and flexibility — totally cool and cutting edge.

In addition the spinning room was expanded, cardio was consolidated into one large room with plenty of TVs for distraction and many other updates and additions.

But beyond the facility being current, clean and comfortable, the staff elevate it to another level. Customer service is awesome. Membership levels are accommodating and the Child Care staff are friendly and attentive so that it doesn’t seem as though we are just warehousing our son.

In addition PBAC offers unheard of features like vacation holds for your membership — going away for 3 weeks? Simply put the membership on hold and restart it — no charge while you are gone. Decide the facility isn’t for you? Cancel and receive a refund for the remaining months of your year. Discounts are also available for pre-paying memberships.

I guess what we like about PBAC is that it feels like a modern metropolitan fitness center with the friendly local atmosphere we like in our small town community. Close to everything — so no excuses not to go — also make it a great option to keep up with our fitness goals.

In short — if you are teetering over that New Year’s resolution and haven’t made any firm commitments come join me at a Body Pump class and get those muscles screaming! You’ll be glad you did.
