STAX Wine Bar & Bistro

My Team, my husband, my friends and family – we all work hard, and we like to unwind. Our favorite type of atmosphere is one that feels a little cliché – a bar where “everybody knows your name.” When we find it, we tend to become their best customers. It’s our go-to spot for a little R&R. And it’s always a great feeling when we can add a new favorite “spot” to the list.

Pismo Beach is fantastic, with so much to do, but locals and frequent visitors can agree that during the Summer it can be a bit hectic. That’s why we love Morro Bay’s sleepier vibe. We first got to know STAX when we would load up the paddle board and kayaks and head up the coast for some on-the-water exercise out to the sandspit, around the sea lion fl

oat, or out to the otters at the breakwater. Afterward our reward was a nice bottle of bubbles and a fully-loaded cheese plate. Or stopping in to have a picnic packed with a couple of nice bottles of Chardonnay to take out on a rented electric Duffy and toddle around the harbor checking out the otters up close! It is like staycationing right here in our backyard.

But now that STAX has added a local favorite, Kari Ziegler, Chef and previous owner of Gather Wine Bar and Comfort Market, they have raised their food game to a whole new level with a wide array of small plates focused on fresh and local – and of course don’t forget those $1 oyster happy hours! While you may think that the menu will be all about the seafood (I mean they are within site of the “Stacks” in Morro Bay, on the dock and next door to Giovanni’s Fish Market) the perfectl

y portioned menu has something for everyone – specialty flatbreads, signature fried Brussels sprouts, French fries with truffle salt or the delicious hand-selected meat and cheese plates. These delicious bites are designed to pair well with the meticulously curated library of wines, offering just the right amount to curb the hunger brought on by a walk down the Embarcadero in the salty air! It’s no surprise that these easily share-able small plate bites are Kari’s

specialty, having developed the first of these types of menus in the area 9 years ago at Gather Wine Bar.

STAX Wine Bar and Bistro has been a popular local and tourist stop for eight years, offering a welcoming atmosphere and broad selection of wines by the glass. They recently added “Bistro” to the name as the menu has expanded and regulars and newcomers alike have responded well to the new offerings. To add to the friendly “hang-out” vibe the STAX folks are offering a full music schedule this Summer as well as a daily happy hour! Every weekday from 3-6 PM you can enjoy $2 off all wines by the glass and draft beers as well as DAILY $1 oysters! Yum-o.

Suffice to say that the Pismo Beach Homes Team will be spending a great deal of their free time in Morro Bay this Summer … come hang out with us and enjoy the views, the vibe and the small plates at STAX!
